From 24 to 1900 students in 50 years

Embark on a journey through time! In 2023, 1900 students were studying at the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics in 7 bachelor's degree programmes and 3 master's degree programmes. In the 1973/74 winter semester, the Computer Science degree programme with a focus on technology and economics started with 24 students. 2001

Introduction of the new (third) specialisation "Information Technology" in the Mathematics degree programme. The faculty takes the requirements of the economy into account and recognises that a significant proportion of our mathematics graduates will pursue their future careers in the field of computer science.

Introduction of a new study concept for the Computer Science programme. In future, three degree programmes will be offered:

  • Computer Engineering

1993

  • The Faculty of General Science is divided into two faculties:
    • Computer Science and Mathematics
    • General Sciences and Microsystems Engineering

The faculty moves to the main building of the University of Regensburg.
The faculty has thus found a "new home" after years of spatial fragmentation at various locations.

1974

Start of the mathematics degree programme with a focus on insurance and technology. With this bold decision, Regensburg was one of the pioneers of a technical and business mathematics degree programme in the German university landscape at the time. Both degree programmes began in Prüfeninger Straße.

1973

Start of the Computer Science degree programme with a focus on technology and economics. Due to a lack of in-house equipment, students receive practical training in the university's computer centre or in company-owned computer centres.

1971 The Johannes Kepler Polytechnic becomes Regensburg University of Applied Sciences

The Department of General Sciences includes mathematics, physics, chemistry, the humanities and a laboratory pool. Already in the founding years of the new university of applied sciences, the first considerations for planning the new degree programmes "Computer Science" and "Mathematics" begin.
